Full-scale Nano prodn at Sanand only by Dec 2010

Tata Motors plans to start full-scale production of the Nano at Sanand only by the end of next calendar year. P M Telang, managing director (India operations), said trial production will commence at the Gujarat plant during the March quarter of this fiscal and it would be scaled up only 6-8 months later. At present, Nano production at Uttarakhand continues at 3,000-4,000 units per month. Telang said production of the mini truck Ace, which is also being made at the Uttarakhand plant, would be increased beyond the 1.5 lakh per year number at present.

To a question on his company's overall export target, Telang said it should double in five years to 30%, from the present 12-15% of total production.

Hesaid new, export oriented products are needed to achieve this kind of growth, pointing towards the Xenon pick-up vehicle, a range of World Trucks, Indica Vista and Manza sedan as vehicles that will lead the company's export push going forward.
